We had the meeting with the consultant and the Macmillan nurse...the consultant kept on saying "you are stealing my thunder!" But as Pirate explained he was an engineer and wants to know how things work.. including his own body.
Good thorough discussion...but stage 4 bowel cancer.
The Big Op removes bowel, prostate and bladder.....two bags and no cycling....and no guarantees that he would survive such a big op.
The Smaller Op might not get all the tumour out... considering where it is
So carry on as we are with the option of one bag later...and carry on with cycling as that keeps him sane.
We have our theories as to what was the first seed...but that process gave us nine more years together...and as the consultant pointed out cancer usually grows slower...like everything...when you get older.
So we carry on as we are now, make the most of what we have, aiming for quality of life.
We think that the consultant had a good idea before we went to Aotearoa NZ and knew how much there and our friends there mean to us..which is why he okayed the trip.
So a great thankyou to him.

I wish you all the best of luck.
Heart stopping news, sad as well. But in the end we have to dictate what we want and it is Pirate's decision. Blessings to you both.
Hoping all goes well for Pirate.
Having been through similar situations twice - husband 1 kidney and husband 2 brain this is just to say - thinking of you both; make the most of every day and never stop saying 'I love you'. Very best wishes - and I hope things move very slowly and gently. And your memories of NZ will help sustain you.
No cycling?! I can see why the carry on cycling is the choice of preference for now. I am sorry it’s so serious. grateful you got Aotearoa in your systems to carry you on.
My heart goes out to both of you. Such a decision to make and such news to take in. -Jenn
Support coming through the spider-net of ether for both of you with this news. Keep on cycling dear friends of blogland. Your choice is totally sane for you!

Never the news one wishes to receive, but to receive it with grace and knowledge and understanding and embrace it thus, surely aids the processing that will now be inevitable. Wishing you both Love and Light for this next phase of your lives. YAM xx
My heart goes out to both of you.
Everything is a trade off, ain't it?
Sounds like the best solution. What is life if you don't enjoy it.
It sounds like you are making sensible decisions, and the one I would make in your shoes. (Given what little I know about the situation, anyway.) There's a lot to be said for quality of life and preserving the things that give you both joy.
Sending love from me SarahM (Scotland)
I am glad you were able to go to NZ. I think we are a bit like your clay pots, storing memories and snippets of life that we can pull out and reexamine on the hard days. Our very best thoughts are reserved for you both.
So sorry to hear of the diagnosis but I, too, think you are making the right decision about Pirate's treatment. Also you have the right attitude, make each day as good as it can be.
Life is very stressful when cancer is in the room. I wish you the best during this journey.
Well done to the Consultant on giving you the o.k. for the trip down here. Lots of wonderful memories. Hugs from N.Z.
I wish you love and joy along whatever path you go. Love from Joanne
A wise decision.
I was told once to live Life as if today is my last day.
Sending you both a virtual hug and hope that all your coming days are full of love.
Here's hoping for better outcomes and continued cycling. I wish you both all the best.
Wishing you all the best and hoping you can both carry on doing what you love doing for as long as possible.
