First hurdles cleared, pre op tests all ok. Pirate needs to lower his blood pressure a little...he does stress over things....but they are all happy, and to top a good if lengthy hospital visit, the anaesthetist we saw is from NZ...her father's family was from the far North of Scotland.
As she said herself, she isn't over here for the weather! One of her best mates is the daughter of friends in Whanganui...and although coming from a running and rowing background, she now runs and cycles....and knows all our friends in the local Ayr Burners Cycling Club !!
We said Kia ora to her...her reply was Kia kaha...stay strong.

It's so wonderful to have connections world wide. It may not happen every day, but you all have more travels and bike events with more people all around the world. Glad things are looking positive for the procedure.

Small world - also would have helped to have a mutual knowledge and love of a place to chat about as you worked around the pre-op necessities
Having a clinician who inspires trust must make a big difference . Wishing you both the very best.
That personal connection can be very helpful. We also get on very well with my consultant. But bear in mind that it does not come without some emotional cost to them too.

Catalyst quite ordinary day to day greetings in Te Reo that most Kiwis would use, not just Māori. But it added something special to both sides

And more links, Steve....Pirate had organised Power of Attorney with a solicitor we know...so this solicitor's fellow worker in the same practice...who had to witness our signatures...used to be married to a Kiwi lady and his son and daughter still live there!
