This morning dawned frosty..we had -2⁰ early on!
After a breakfast phone call with Pirate and a phone chat with our district nurse, it was so bright and clear and blue...time for a walk!
Just half an hour around the village..the Mill circuit is twice as long and much of it on open roads....so not yet!
You can see where there has been trees freshly planted.
The sun was so bright!
Back home and the purple crocuses were sun worshipping!
A panful if soup next...an onion from a neighbour's garden, leeks and bay leaves from mine, squash and dried chillies from my store cupboard...and kumera and red lentils! A few more spices....
Off to see Pirate on the bus...so fortunate to have a cross country service to the hospital..
He is wearing his own pyjamas! And practising walking together..with me, not a nurse today. He still isn't ready for home...but he is making progress.
It looks like they want him out during Wednesday....but so far no bed and struggling central heating ( hopefully to be sorted on Thursday) and no car either as that will be in the garage getting attention...
So I don't know what will be decided.
Back home on the same bus route.. and to a present from our lovely neighbour across the road...a card for him and a box of chocolates for me!!
She is a lovely person, a little older than Pirate,.once at least as tall as me..now bent over with scoliosis and walking with a walker or two sticks.
She has done a few different jobs,,. including in a carpet factory...and a no nonsense barmaid in a pub in Ayr!! Well known and loved.

Funnily enough, Pirate got lentil soup in hospital for lunch!!
What are the "jumpers" in the soup? Good to get out for a walk on a sunny day. Sounds like good improvement for Pirate. Hope he isn't sent home before everything sorted. Great to have good neighbours.
-2 degrees is cold but the sunshine and blue sky makes for a lovely walk. Your landscape has beautiful vistas. Someone is growing lots of trees in nicely planted rows; are they all the same tree? Your soup looks delicious and perfect for a chilly day. Pirate makes progress each day and that is always good.

Susan it is a plantation of trees, probably Spruce. If we are lucky they will have added native trees at the ends of the rows. The Forestry Commission bought the farm you can see at the top of the fields. I don't know how well the spruce will grow as much of the land you can see is "reclaimed" bing...coal spoil tip..the idea is partly carbon capture, but actually scrub and shrubbery has been found to be more efficient at that

That is a lovely place for a walk. It must be very calming. Soup sounds like a good idea. I must get some going on the hob.
Pleased to hear Pirate is progressing well. As they said of King Charles, it is a psychological challenge as well as a physical one, and it can be hard to stay positive. I know myself, that some days it would be so easy to stay in bed and not bother, but I learned a lot of resilience from mountain walking, as I guess Pirate has from cycling.
Wearing his own pyjamas! That IS a turn toward normalcy.

The crocuses too.
It's usually too cold here (Minnesota) for crocuses outside at my birthday in March, but they're often sold in pots in grocery stores at this time--when I was a child, they were my birthday flower.

Something very heartening about wearing your own pajamas. I guess I missed your central heating issues. What a time to be struggling with that on top of everything else. Hope the sort out the bed soon
I have been blog awol recently so am on catch up - glad Pirate had his op and seems to be mending - going to go back and read all - hope car/heating and bed are all sorted soon and he can come home :) xx
Very pleased that the pirate is getting better and better! The potted yolk is delicious! The soup looks delicious and light, spring is coming and things are only going to get better and better!
